Top 3 causes of car accidents in Nevada

Car accidents are an inconvenience at best and fatal at worst. Over 300 Nevada residents are victims of collisions in the latter category each year, according to the Nevada Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety. Reducing this number and eventually eliminating it relies on every driver to be aware of risk factors and practice safe driving techniques.

Following are the most commonly cited causes of car accidents throughout the state of Nevada. If you suffered an injury in a collision caused by one of these or any other incident on the road, you should seek out medical care and legal representation to ensure your needs are taken care of.

1. Driving while distracted

There is no shortage of distractions vying for your attention when you are on the road. The sounds of the radio might make it difficult to hear a horn, and reaching to change the channel takes your hand off the wheel. Even worse distractions such as texting or using your phone in any capacity put your fellow drivers at an even greater risk.

2. Failing to stay in the lane

Distraction, in fact, is a contributing factor in another of the most common car accident causes. Often, people who are not paying attention drift between lanes, and this is one of the most dangerous mistakes you can make. Failing to stay in your own lane very often results in a collision, and it is an entirely avoidable situation.

3. Running stop signs or red lights

When you are in a hurry, it can be easy to drive a little faster than usual or neglect the precautions you would usually take. This can be disastrous, though, when your recklessness affects other drivers. Breezing through a stop sign or red light can seem like a minor offense, but you might not see oncoming traffic in time.
